NECK & UNDER CHIN · ILLUSTRATED 3D RECOVERY
Adam’s Apple Reduction (Tracheal Shave): before & after and recovery stages
Compare a fixed front-neck prominence with a partly reduced contour as temporary swelling and incision color settle.
Also called chondrolaryngoplasty

SUMMARY
What this example shows
A fixed fictional prominence at the front of the neck is partly reduced while separate swelling and color settle. A small upper-neck incision line fades but remains. Some prominence is retained even at the strongest contour setting. This is an external-access surface example, not a reconstruction of cartilage removal, internal anatomy, a voice change or a personal surgical limit.
STAGE BY STAGE
Adam’s Apple Reduction (Tracheal Shave) recovery stages
Starting neck prominence
The same fictional thyroid-cartilage prominence is used at every date.
The chosen display face does not diagnose cartilage size or identify a surgical limit.
First few days: Reduced contour under swelling
Temporary neck fullness and a closed upper-neck incision line overlap the smaller prominence.
Dressings are hidden for comparison. External-incision location varies by approach.
Around 2 weeks: Profile becoming clearer
Less swelling reveals the partial reduction; the incision line still has color.
Residual swelling can last weeks; this date is not a return-to-activity instruction.
Around 3 months: Residual prominence and scar
A smaller front-neck bump and a faint upper-neck line remain.
The endpoint is a comparison example, not complete cartilage removal or a guaranteed scar outcome.
TIMELINE
Day-by-day checkpoints in the 3D model
The simulator interpolates between these authored checkpoints. They describe the illustration, not measured clinical averages.
The same fictional thyroid-cartilage prominence is used at every date.
Early local fullness overlaps the partly reduced prominence.
Swelling and color partly obscure the new profile.
Local color lessens while some fullness remains.
The smaller prominence becomes clearer as swelling recedes.
Some prominence and the closed incision line remain.
A smaller prominence and faint scar remain; this is not an individual healing deadline.
INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES
How recovery can vary
Timing and response
The starting prominence is fixed and the contour setting controls an illustration. Anatomy and access route vary. This is not a simulation of internal cartilage work, a neck lift or under-chin fat removal.
Longer term
Some prominence and the scar remain in the example. Voice, breathing, swallowing, cartilage safety limits and later scar changes cannot be predicted from the surface view.
EVIDENCE NOTES
Sources and limitations
- University Hospitals: Laryngeal cartilage shave
Reduction rather than elimination of the thyroid-cartilage prominence, early local swelling and an external incision. It does not calibrate the model or determine a safe amount of cartilage removal.
- UW Health: Thyroid cartilage reduction · Patient information
Describes a submental access scar, swelling that can last weeks and scar fading. This technique-specific leaflet does not set the preview’s dates or predict voice and swallowing function.
