EARS · ILLUSTRATED 3D RECOVERY
Ear Pinning (Otoplasty): before & after and recovery stages
Compare an optional early protective wrap with the ear position as local swelling and bruising fade.
Also called pinnaplasty · ear correction surgery

SUMMARY
What this example shows
The visible ear cartilage moves closer to the head and slightly backward. Early local swelling and bruising settle around that changed position. This is a pinning example, not ear reconstruction, size reduction or a hearing simulation.
STAGE BY STAGE
Ear Pinning (Otoplasty) recovery stages
Before treatment
The unchanged display face provides a reference for this example.
First few days: Protective wrap and swelling
The optional head wrap covers the ears while local puffiness remains.
Turn off the early ear bandage to compare the underlying ear position.
Around 1 week: After the example wrap
The wrap is removed in this illustration; swelling and bruising remain.
The NHS describes removal around 5–10 days. Day 7 is an example; follow your surgical team’s plan.
Around 2 weeks: Bruising easing
The surface color is lighter around the ears.
Bruising may last about two weeks; tenderness can last longer.
Around 1 month: Position clearer
Less fullness reveals the illustrated ear position.
A settled-looking ear does not show stiffness, comfort or scar healing.
TIMELINE
Day-by-day checkpoints in the 3D model
The simulator interpolates between these authored checkpoints. They describe the illustration, not measured clinical averages.
The unchanged display face provides a reference for this example.
Local swelling overlays the changed ear position.
Temporary fullness and color surround the ears.
The example ear outlines become less puffy.
Less bruising exposes the illustrated ear position.
The early color has largely faded in this example.
The model does not show cartilage stiffness, tenderness or scar maturity.
INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES
How recovery can vary
Timing and response
This depicts pinning in an adult display face. Cartilage reshaping, symmetry, reconstruction and ear-size reduction require different approaches.
Longer term
A nighttime headband may be needed for several weeks after the initial wrap; it is not shown here. Sensation and flexibility may keep changing. The model does not set dates for swimming, sport or pressure on the ears.
EVIDENCE NOTES
Sources and limitations
- NHS: Ear correction surgery
Ear pinning, bandage removal around 5–10 days, early bruising and longer tenderness.
