Punch Skin Grafting (Acne Scars): before & after and recovery stages

Compare narrow cheek pits with placed skin plugs, fading edge color and residual circular patches.

SUMMARY

What this example shows

Three fixed narrow pits per cheek are replaced by small skin plugs. Early edge color fades while circular seams and slight color or texture differences remain. This closed-surface example omits tape, dressings, donor-site harvest and open wounds. It does not predict graft survival or individual scar matching.

STAGE BY STAGE

Punch Skin Grafting (Acne Scars) recovery stages

BEFORE

Narrow-pit reference

Three small depressions occupy fixed sites on each cheek.

Fictional sites allow comparison with the same display face.

DAY 1

First treated view: Placed skin plugs

Small closed circular patches replace the pits, with early edge color.

ASDS describes grafted skin and temporary dressings. Dressings are omitted here to show the surface, not to instruct their removal.

DAY 30 · 4 WEEKS

Intermediate example: Patch boundaries remain

Temporary fullness eases while circular edges and color differences remain.

Color and texture can differ from the surrounding skin. The month-one view is an authored comparison.

DAY 180 · 6 MONTHS

Later comparison: Residual circular seams

The same patches retain slight color and texture differences.

This date does not establish graft survival or a final scar result.

TIMELINE

Day-by-day checkpoints in the 3D model

The simulator interpolates between these authored checkpoints. They describe the illustration, not measured clinical averages.

Before treatmentUntreated reference

The unchanged display face provides a reference for this example.

Day 1Placed skin plugs

Small circular patches replace the pits; dressings are omitted to show the surface.

Day 3Early edge response

The patches remain in place with local color and fullness.

Day 7Early comparison

The circular edges remain visible; this date is not a dressing-removal instruction.

Day 14 · 2 weeksSurface response easing

Temporary fullness lessens around the same patches.

Day 30 · 4 weeksVisible patch boundaries

Circular seams and color differences remain as the early response eases.

Day 90 · 3 monthsLater patch comparison

The example retains residual circular marks.

Day 180 · 6 monthsResidual seams and patches

A grafted surface retains visible differences, not untouched skin.

Day 365 · 12 monthsLonger comparison

Residual patch differences remain; appearance and graft survival vary individually.

03

INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES

How recovery can vary

Timing and response

Donor skin, scar size and individual healing affect appearance. The fixed patches, dimensions and dates are display examples, not a graft plan.

Longer term

A graft replaces the pit with a new scar. Further resurfacing is a separate treatment and is not automatically included in this example.

EVIDENCE NOTES

Sources and limitations

  1. ASDS: Punch grafting for scars

Replacement of a depressed scar with a skin plug, early dressing coverage and possible residual color or texture differences. The source does not calibrate the displayed patch size, color or later comparison dates.

  2. AAD: Acne scar treatment

Scar types need different approaches. Scar surgery can lift depressed skin, with further change during healing and individualized combination treatment.
